Collaboration with Community Police

During the month of February, Poder Joven partnered with the Manrique community police on a campaign to create awareness about drug use. Through educational activities and games, children learned about the negative outcomes of drug use and the importance of avoiding interactions with gangs from the neighborhood.

Self-governance and democratic election

During the month of March, we conducted a “self-governance” campaign in which children exercised their democratic rights to select of their classmates as the institutional representative. This activity was focused on teaching children about democratic processes and their civic responsibility to society.

After-school support

We continue to provide extra academic support to children in consideration to the disruptions caused by the pandemic. Although schools have returned in hybrid environment, children are expected to do much independent work and they lack the extra support from the public education system.

At Poder Joven, we seek the holistic well-being of our children; for this reason, we offer them activities designed to develop their cognitive and social skills. However, the nutritional support we provide daily is no less important. At our facilities, we serve a total of 230 meals per day (5,060 full meals each month). This nutritional support enables our kids to enjoy the activities we offer and helps them concentrate more easily during the academic reinforcement sessions.
