Outdoors art camp

During the month of May we took the children to several Parks in the city of Medellin. We played games and conducted other educational activities through art. The children were asked to express their feelings about their current conditions in life through their artwork. The activity helped us identify the most important and urgent needs of the children.

At movies

During the month of June, the children had the opportunity to go to the movies. This was an initiative from a group of volunteers who provided the funds and logistics. For several children this was the first time they have gone to the movies but they all had a great time.  The volunteers also bought food and the children could not stop telling us how special the whole experience was for them.

Talent Fair

This year, our talent fair took place in July. In addition to all the children served by Poder Joven we also had some guests from other organizations. This is a great opportunity for the children to find their potential. Some of the kids are naturally timid so we empower them with tools to overcome some fears. There is a common purpose behind every activity: strengthening the children’s abilities so they are a happy now and at the same time allow them to find their potential for a better future.

DIGITAL NEWSLETTER – APRIL 2024

In our efforts to offer meaningful activities to the children, we created an alliance with one of the main public libraries in the city of Medellín. Through it, children learn science in many fun ways. Children get access to computers, watch documentaries, play games that stimulate their creativity and intelligence. Through activities like this, we make sure that Poder Joven is more attractive to the children than the “the street activities” which they are exposed to such as begging, crime, sexual exploitation, and drug consumption.

DIGITAL NEWSLETTER – DECEMBER 2023

As part of our constant search for alternatives to provide well-being to our children, we held a crafts workshop with therapeutic purpose. Through an activity called “the hugging kitten” the children created rag dolls to their liking, using their personal designs and favorite colors; Then, they wrote a story to relate themselves and their rag friends and reflect on their fears and challenges in life. The kittens symbolize those people such as friends, teachers, and family whom they can trust and seek comfort whenever they need it.
