Delivery of School Kits

We handed 130 school kits in January to ensure that the children we serve have all the supplies they need to succeed during this academic year. This is just part of the support Poder Joven provides throughout the year with tutoring and supplementary academic activities that strengthen the kid’s performance at school.

Community Kitchen

The COVID-19 mandatory lockdown in Colombia started on March 24 and even though this has limited the extend of services we provide, Poder Joven is fully aware that the population we serve is particularly vulnerable to the situation. As such, we have been working tirelessly to meet the basic needs of the children and their families. We have temporarily converted our operative centers into local community kitchens where the children we usually serve in the program along with their siblings can have at least two full meals every day. Though these community kitchens we are meeting the nutritional needs of over 180 children from vulnerable populations.

Food and hygiene supplies for vulnerable families

In order to offset the adverse effects of the pandemic lockdown on needy populations, we have delivered over 286 boxes with food and basic hygiene supplies which last a week for a family of five. These are people who regularly have informal jobs in the streets of Medellin so currently they have no source of income to provide for themselves and their children. In addition, the financial that the government promised has been meager and intermittent. As such, these families are entirely relying on the support from individuals and local nonprofit organizations for survival.

We are eternally grateful with all those individuals who have supported us during this time of uncertainty and adversity. Their generosity has made our work possible.

At Poder Joven, we seek the holistic well-being of our children; for this reason, we offer them activities designed to develop their cognitive and social skills. However, the nutritional support we provide daily is no less important. At our facilities, we serve a total of 230 meals per day (5,060 full meals each month). This nutritional support enables our kids to enjoy the activities we offer and helps them concentrate more easily during the academic reinforcement sessions.

DIGITAL NEWSLETTER – AUGUST 2025

In the month of May, we invited the children’s families to enjoy a joyful afternoon of music, prizes, and fun. We know how important it is to work closely with the children’s immediate families, as this is where the learning and behaviors originate. For this reason, we strive to educate parents about the need to serve as positive role models for the proper development of their children’s personalities.
